| An overview of the available information on the commercially important squid species distributed in the Argentine Sea and adjacent zones is given. It includes the most representative characteristics to identify the species and general information on their biology, distribution and fisheries. A biological sampling designis presented, with particular emphasis on the identification of sexual maturity stages. | Durante el 2009, se realizó el seguimiento de las capturas de cangrejo rojo (Ucides occidentalis), en las principales localidades de extracción de la provincia de El Oro y Guayas, la captura total estimada de cangrejos fue de 2 897 707 y 3 184 795 en las provincias mencionadas. Las localidades de Puerto Jelí y Puerto Baquerizo Moreno fueron las de mayor desembarque, lo que está relacionado directamente con el esfuerzo. La CPUE fue muy variada en los puertos monitoreados con valores que oscilaron entre 47 a 94 cangrejos hombre-1 día-1, obteniéndose mayores niveles en el periodo posterior a la época de veda. | Whitemouth croaker Micropogonias furnieri fishery during three intensive fishing seasons in the outer area of the La Plata River (Argentina-Uruguay) is analyzed. Resource exploitation in the South Atlantic area shows a general retraction of the distribution range and an isolation of the La Plata River stock where most of the fishing effort concentrates. The species market evolution brought about, for Argentina and Uruguay, an important shift in its dynamics as of 1992, when the product insertion in Asiatic markets generated an important commercial attraction and a subsequent increase in the fishing effort by the argentine inshore coastal fleet. | Monte Hermoso (Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a tourist town inhabited by a large number of artisanal fishermen. The aim of this study was to characterize, through a descriptive analysis, the operational activity of the artisanal fleet and quantify the catches landed per species. The ships, of a trucker type, are 6-9 m length equipped with a 40-90 HP outboard motor. The data analyzed derive from purchase slips furnished by a gatherer corresponding to the November 2009-October 2010 period. | Aplicando Funciones Ortogonales Empíricas (EOF) se determinó patrones de comportamiento similares entre algunas variables pesqueras del 2004 como: los desembarques de pelágicos pequeños, número de zarpes de los barcos clase I, II, III y IV; y variables oceanográficas como la temperatura superficial del mar (TSM) y anomalías térmicas de la región Nino 1+2. | The recent collapse in the landings of cockles (Cerastoderma edule) from the Bay of Somme (France) required to investigate if a change in the environmental factors was liable for the drop of the bivalve populations. This project has led to a preliminary assessment of the situation and has been drawn up from the data collected by the Groupe d'Etude des Milieux Estuariens et Littoraux since 1978. | Se presentan los resultados del seguimiento de los desembarques de peces pelágicos grandes y tiburones procedentes de la pesca artesanal durante el 2008. Se determinó un total desembarcado de 32 150.37 t, que correspondió 67.4 % y 20.2% a peces pelágicos grandes y tiburones respectivamente. Entre los pelágicos grandes la familia Coryphaenidae fue la más representativa, en tanto que para el grupo de tiburones fue Alopiidae, y en menor presencia Carcharhinidae y Sphyrnidae. | Argentine black drum distributes mainly in shallow waters associated to estuarine areas, particularly to Samborombon Bay where it may be detected throughout the year. Nevertheless, it can also be spotted more southwards (40°S) and at deeper waters. During summer, catches of the species in Samborombon Bay are practically negligible, probably due to movements towards shallow waters out of reach of the inshore commercial fleet. Landings increase in autumn and show peak values in winter, coinciding with the fishing season of whitemouth croaker, Micropogonias furnieri, whose geographical distribution within the bay overlaps that of black drum.
